Have you noticed these days that hip hop is becoming no more than a contest (my d*** is bigger than your d*** type thing) or a stage to try and put yourself out as the hardest gangster,or who has individually struggled the most and who has got the most (diamonds, cars ,houses)?
I mean let me state right now i LOVE my music and admire the hustle of artists,no doubt!!!But what happened to the days of hip hop being a platform for real life story telling,to get your point of view across that THEY(They being goverment and those in position of power who COULD make a change) wasnt hearing,or not seeing(or choosing not to rather)? rappers nowadays have more weight and influence on the younger generation than the president could ever hope to have and its time they stepped up to the plate and made use of this!!! i mean as i said i love the artists and aint a player hater, theres nothing more i like to see than one of us make it in this harsh world, but people like 50cent dont seem to have much to say other than brag or boast, show kids that its nothing to take another mans life or just be all about the money,i know that confidence is a part of hip hop a will to succeed agaist all the odds, and i know that we to often find ourselves in positions and predicaments that we dont want to be in and leave us with no choice but to do something that may go agaist who we really are i do understand this but it is not something to brag about at all or glamourise to young impressionable kids who may never had to or have to walk that path but find themselves doing so because of their wanting to be like their role models, life inmitating art ,i actually remember when the hip hop movement started it was not this way it was art inmitating life but somewhere along the line its gotten muddled up!!!although you got to admire his entrepreneural skills and hustle i sometimes wonder if 50 knows that his songs and lyrics are actually detremental to his people, giving young fatherless (black kids especially)kids the idea that to be successfull or to be like him you have to be a gangster,or that the most important thing is money, and im not singling out 50 by any means infact he does alot for his people and puts back but i just wonder if the fame and money has made him detached from the streets coz you do have plastic gangsters running round trying to be someone they are not because they hear someone like 50 glorifying that lifestyle as opposed to telling that story of that lifestyle, now hes on top maybe he could stop the gun talk and put some real life stories with substance in his lyrics storys which we know he has lived through and could tell to make people think, depends how you look at things you can survive being shot and brag noone can kill you or you can hit kids with the fact that you COULD have died and make them think, they all seem to believe they bullet proof because some of their favourite rappers have survived and glorified their ordeal....they too want that street cred...when in truth theres no cred in coming an inch within your life, like i said its how you look at things...if i told people(young impressionable kids)bout what i can done and seen in my life they would look at me the same as 50 and think DAMN that guy is a gangster or he wont take sh** from noone or i wouldnt mess with him,but truth is i am ashamed of what i have done and been a part of...would 50 or you want your family or friends to live with that???i have done bad things in my life although at the time some things couldnt be helped or i couldnt see another way out at the time, but if i was telling someone what had happened its how you tell them as i said im not proud of alot of things yet they were still learning experiences that if for the benefit of helping someone else i would tell then i would and hope they didnt follow but by no means would i glorify i wouldnt want any of my people to go through see the things that i still think of and suffer for today even though a majority of bad i done i had no choice,i am a decent human being, and i keep refering to 50 but this aint about him he is just my example ,we need to go back to basics, look at the black panthers, any of their financial gains were to go towards the bigger picture, not just 1 ghetto kid making it out the slums but to go towards the betterment of the community that we should focus and we could ALL make it out the slums,im not saying that what 50 has earnt should be for everyone, but he has to realise how powerful his opinion and actions are to young broke kids, those without a positive role model look up to people like him,and although there are a lot of aspects they SHOULD learn from and take from him there are alot of negatives too!!! i wish i knew how to be as influentional as some one like 50 because i would use it to the fullest, besides the points i have just wrote about all these things make for run of the meal junk music, how many rappers do you want to hear telling how many houses and cars they own before it gets too boring, even when they ride the beat and rip it apart it has no substance, nowadays i listen to alot of stuff like that and admire the beat when the words are the same old same old, back in the day i would listen to and my favourite songs would be the ones where i might of hated the beat but it was what the rapper had t say that got you and empowered you,had you feeling like martin luther or malcolm x,like HELL YEAH i know what tjhat brothers saying and you wanted to go and change the world,i guess gone are the days that rappers are inspirational and activists aswell.......its a damn shame
